Happy Workers' Day to an Amazing Customer and Team members!
In the 19th century, workers faced brutal conditions, often labouring 14–16 hours a day. This led to unions demanding "8 hours for work, 8 for rest, and 8 for leisure. On May 1, 1886, over 300,000 U.S. workers went on strike, leading to police gunfire and deaths (Haymarket Massacre). The event became a symbol of workers' resistance, inspiring worldwide protests.
The Haymarket Massacre sparked the establishment of International Workers' Day, or May Day, as a day to commemorate the struggle for workers' rights. The event highlighted the importance of solidarity and collective action in achieving better working conditions for all. It symbolises solidarity and advocacy for fair treatment, better wages, and safer working conditions.
